Fabrika presents the Digital AIR digital residency and the second project within this residency - "Drafts Of Ecology: URD". The purpose of the digital residence Digital AIR is the creation of new international art projects without reference to the epidemiological situation.
The virtual residence project Digital AIR is created by the Fabrika together with the APXIV group, which owns the curatorial concept of the project. Participation in the Digital AIR residence is a reaction to the global digitalization in the field of culture and art, as well as an attempt to develop new art forms and practices for the presentation of contemporary art. In the process of creating a virtual residence, the curators digitized three exhibition and studio halls of the Fabrika and formed a new ecosystem at the intersection of digital and material art, in which artists from different countries will be able to work.
The second project shown as part of the Digital AIR digital residency will be the exhibition and game XR project Drafts Of Ecology: URD, curated by Danish artist, musician and curator Theodor Nymark.
"Drafts Of Ecology: URD" curator Theodor Nymark reflects on the theme of "trend" proposed to him by the APXIV group of artists by examining the etymological history of the word and its relationship to the ecological concept of nature's cyclical nature.
Ecology, a term coined by the famous German philosopher and naturalist Ernst Haeckel, is the study of the relationship between living organisms, including humans, and their physical environment. Eco in ecology comes from the Greek oikos, "house, dwelling or habitation".
Making a reference to the philosophical concept of the English philosopher Timothy Morton and his book “Dark ecology. For a Logic of Future Coexistence curated by Theodor Nymark intends to understand the environment not only as biological matter, but also as alloy, concrete and minerals.
Viewers will experience an interactive experience in a figurative space that connects the real and the virtual. This experience includes both interaction with installations, photographs and video materials, as well as with other spectator players in the virtual and physical space of the Fabrika.
The project will open simultaneously in several digital and real dimensions: on January 28 at 19.00 in the Tsekh Otdelki of Fabrika in Moscow (Russia) and the Metaverse without Borders (the link will become active on January 28 at 19:00).
