"God is love": opening of Andrey Mitenev's exhibition

Arthaus

Opening of the exhibition on October 8 at 19:00

Center for Creative Industries "Fabrika" presents a new exhibition of the Moscow artist Andrey Mitenev "God is love". As part of the project, the artist will present a series of graphic works that he created while in prison for two and a half years. In the fall of 2021, it is also planned to release a graphic book by Andrey Mitenev with the same name - “God is love”. The date of the presentation of the publication will be announced later, but today it is possible to see most of the works at the exhibition.

There are exhibitions that gather for a long time, there are exhibitions that are made at one moment. There are exhibitions “to order” and “on a whim”. Exhibitions are institutional, exhibitions are against institutionalism. Exhibitions "for everything" and exhibitions "against everything". Exhibitions about the complex. And exhibitions that no one would want under the circumstances.

This exhibition is about falling into the trap of time, wandering through time and the finds that are scattered along the way.

It so happened that the artist Andrei Mitenev spent two and a half years in prison - in prison and colony. This trendy (with a negative connotation) pastime gave him the opportunity to rethink himself and the world.

What is a person?

What is a state?

What is freedom?

What is time?

What is life?

These banal, at first glance, questions are revealed by non-banal plots in scenes that cannot be invented and impossible to repeat, as every beginning in a person, leading him to a natural end, is unique.

The exhibition will feature portraits of prisoners and their reflections on what freedom is.

The dreams of the artist, which freed him, even if for a short time, from the feeling of the doom of the situation in which he found himself.

Scenes from the life of prisoners - a kaleidoscope of conflicts, holidays, spiritual gatherings, violence, indifference, despondency, hope, despair, humility and barely noticeable glimpses of love.

"God is love" - here is exactly what the "inscription on the fence", or rather, the graffiti scrawled on the walls of "Matrosskaya Tishina", as a reminder of something more that can contain, accept, endure and forgive all this horror of dehumanization in which we are all imperceptibly immersed.
